Kiss star Gene Simmons hands Susanna Reid his used gum during Good Morning Britain interview

There was a slightly gross moment on Good Morning Britain as Kiss star Gene Simmons took his gum out of his mouth and handed it to Susanna Reid.

The presenter was interviewing the rocker ahead of Kiss’ final farewell tour, after the musician made a surprise appearance at Westminster to listen to PMQs on Wednesday.

    (No, really.)

On Thursday the star headed to the ITV studios to chat to Susanna and co-host Ben Shephard about the tour, which had been described as the ‘ultimate celebration for those who’ve seen us and a last chance for those who haven’t.’

The American rock band, formed in 1973, have already played in Plymouth, Birmingham, Newcastle, London and Manchester, and on Thursday will play their final show in Glasgow.

Introducing the segment on Thursday’s show, Susanna took on the role of stern school teacher as she said: ‘Gene Simmons is here, and he’s chewing gum.’

She added that his chewed gum had previously been auctioned off ‘for a ridiculous amount of money,’ to which an affronted Gene said: ‘It’s not ridiculous, I’m kind of a big deal.’

Ad upon learning that Gene’s last piece of gum sold for almost a quarter of a million dollars, Susanna reached across the couch and held out her hand.

Gene dutifully obliged, taking the used gum out of his mouth and handing it to the presenter, as Ben exclaimed: ‘She’s going to sell it!’

At the same time as Gene placed the chewed-up gum in Susanna’s hand, a voice from the set could be heard crying out in a mix of hilarity and disgust.

Despite the gross moment, viewers were happy with the interview – and one even joked: ‘Who’s bidding for that piece of bubble gum then?’

It comes after MPs and the public were shocked to see the musician show up in the Houses of Parliament to see the head-to-head at Deputy Prime Minister’s Questions.

Having been invited by DUP MP Ian Paisley, Gene received a private tour before watching Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden clash with Labour’s Angela Rayner.

He later told the PA agency it was ‘fascinating’ to watch the goings-on, saying what he was ‘was controlled chaos.’

‘It was the clash of wills but respectful – the right honourable so and so, it was fascinating.

‘In America, it’s like the middle finger is a salute. I think Americans can take a big lesson in civility in how to make democracy actually work and still respect the other side.’

It’s not the first time the musician has taken an interest in British politics, having previously called then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson ‘cool as can be.’

He has also aired his views on ex-US President Donald Trump, and was not half as complimentary, saying he had ‘got all the cockroaches to rise to the top.’

‘Once upon a time, you were embarrassed to be publicly racist and out there with conspiracy theories. Now it’s all out in the open because he allowed it.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX
