Amad Diallo, Alvaro Fernandez and Hannibal Mejbri will be given the chance to force their way into Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United plans this summer.

United have made signing a striker and a midfielder this summer but the squad could also be bolstered by youngsters returning to the club after impressive spells on loan.

Amad enjoyed a spectacular campaign at Sunderland, scoring 14 times and helping the club reach the Championship play-offs, missing out on promotion after defeat to eventual winners Luton Town.

The Ivorian was voted the Black Cats’ Young Player of the Year, as was Fernandez after his stay at Preston. The 20-year-old Spaniard played 42 times while contributing with six assists during his time at Deepdale.

Mejbri meanwhile was also handed chances in the Championship with Birmingham, becoming a fan favourite at St Andrews.

United have already earmarked a number of youngsters for loan moves away next season but Amad, Fernandez and Mejbri will have chances to impress during United’s pre-season tour of the US, the Manchester Evening News report.

Ten Hag is said to be eager to take a closer look at Amad, who has already made a handful of appearances for the senior side and while Fernandez is expected to leave on loan again, he will be in the manager’s pre-season plans.

19-year-old striker Charlie McNeil meanwhile is expected to leave on loan this summer after a spell at Newport County this season, although he could be involved in the summer with options short up front. United have made signing a striker a top priority with Harry Kane the manager’s preferred option.

Of all of United’s young talents, former defender Rio Ferdinand is eager to see Amad handed an opportunity, believing he can offer a solution in a ‘problem position’.

‘He has got talent there is no doubting that. You can see the talent he has got but you can see he wasn’t robust enough at the time.

‘But that loan at Sunderland, he left that place a hero, an absolute god. He plays on the right hand side too, a problem position for us.

‘I know Antony has come in and done well but he is someone you can look at and say can he add something a bit different. I would like to see him given another opportunity.

‘There is a bit of unfinished business and I don’t know if he’s not good enough, not right for Man United or he is [good enough] because I haven’t seen enough.’
