Can Arsenal still win the Premier League title? What the Gunners need to do to lift the trophy

Arsenal have spent much of the Premier League season occupying top spot in the table.

However, an untimely April wobble with three successive draws against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton before losing to title rivals Manchester City saw them relinquish control of the title race.

With that said, can Mikel Arteta’s men, who are eyeing their first Premier League title since 2004, still get their hands on this season’s Premier League trophy?

    Let’s crunch the numbers.

Can Arsenal still win the Premier League this season?

Arsenal can still mathematically win the Premier League title in 2022/23.

The north Londoners have three games remaining this season, including their game at the Emirates against Brighton.

After the clash with the Seagulls, Arsenal head to relegation threatened Nottingham Forest before finishing at home against Wolves.

The maximum number of points Arsenal can reach this season is 90.

Manchester City, meanwhile, have three games left this campaign; at home against Chelsea and then away against Brighton and Brentford.

If City win all of their remaining league fixtures, Pep Guardiola’s men will end up with 94 points.

However, just two more wins are needed for City to retain their crown.

In order for Arsenal to win the Premier League title, then, Manchester City will need to drop at least four points.

Assuming Arsenal pick up maximum points between now and the end of the season, that would leave both clubs tied on 90 points.

But with City’s superior goal difference, Arsenal will realistically need to win their remaining games and hope the defending champions drop at least five points.

The Gunners will, at the very least, hope to take the title race down to the final day of the season on May 28 against a Wolves side who have nothing left to play for this term having already secured their top flight status.

Manchester City are in action against Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final tie this Wednesday, with a four day turnaround before that clash with Chelsea.

Arsenal will hope City’s gruelling schedule, with the midweek game against Brighton on the south coast coming just three days later, could force a late slip up from Guardiola’s treble-chasing side.

The FA Cup final against Manchester United (June 3) and a possible Champions League final against AC Milan or Inter Milan (June 10) will take place after the Premier League season has ended.
