A British tourist has been arrested on suspicion of raping his son’s friend in the middle of the night at a hotel in Majorca.

The woman, who is also British and believed to be aged around 20, was allegedly attacked after falling asleep in her friend’s room in Magaluf which had an internal door leading into his dad’s room.

Detectives were told the older man surprised the woman after entering the room while his son was out partying.

He reportedly packed his bags and tried to leave the island in a hurry just hours after the alleged sexual assault but was detained by police at Palma Airport.

Officers stopped him at the boarding gate as he attempted to flee.

It’s understood he allegedly ended his holiday early by buying a flight ticket home days before he was originally due to leave.

The alleged rape victim fled the unnamed hotel and raised the alarm at a Civil Guard office near to the Punta Ballena party strip in Magaluf, according to local reports.

Majorcan news outlet Ultima Hora said officers took a statement from her before going to the hotel and finding the man they were looking for had already checked out of the hotel.

Investigating magistrates ordered his remand in custody after he was hauled to court for questioning during a closed session in which the alleged victim gave her version of events.

Spain’s Civil Guard force have not yet commented on the incident and subsequent arrest, which is reported to have been made on Tuesday.
