Eurovision hosts Alesha Dixon and Hannah Waddingham have been transformed into drag queens for a performance that has rivalled some of the acts competing.

During the interval of Thursday night’s semi-final, the two hosts showed off a ‘Queen Machine’ that had turned up on stage.

Checking it all out, they got closer to get an idea of what magic the machine could perform, but quickly got caught up in it all.

Explaining that ‘here at Eurovision you can be anything you want to be’, Hannah worked to amp up the crowd and exclaim that the arena was full of ‘fabulous kings and queens’.

‘Speaking of which this thing has turned up, the Queen Machine,’ Alesha added.

Wanting to give it a go, they headed on over and as it kicked into gear, the two hosts were ‘turned’ into drag queens, who then pulled off a totally epic performance with a medley of songs.

The act took many people watching at home off guard, but they quickly made sure to share just how much they were loving what they were seeing.

‘Absolutely adored the Drag Queens in the interval of this semi-final. Brilliant. Loved it,’ one person posted on Twitter.

‘Drag Queens doing a big act at #Eurovision2023 is already the best thing in Eurovision history, beyond happy right now,’ someone else said.

Another added: ‘DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NUMBER TO VOTE FOR THE DRAG QUEENS TO WIN THIS YEAR????? CAUSE THEY STOLE THE DAMN SHOW.’

‘If you are ready to be who you want to be get up here and be free,’ one of the song lyrics said.

As the performance wrapped up, UK co-commentator Rylan Clark shared one of the best qualities about the song contest.

‘That is the thing about Eurovision. Whether you love rock, pop, dance and whatever your background, race or gender or sexuality, anything…the party is open for everyone,’ he said.

Officially introducing the queens to the audience once their epic set wrapped up, Hannah shared that the three performers had been Miss Demeanour, Mercedes Benz-Over and Tomara Thomas.

The Eurovision Grand Final airs Saturday, May 13 at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
