Emma Raducanu may miss the remainder of 2023 and ‘look towards next season’ after the injured tennis star confirmed she will not play Wimbledon.

That’s according to world renowned sports doctor Ralph Rogers, who has explained that Raducanu’s injury problems may be worse than many think.

Raducanu has struggled with injury ever since winning the US Open in 2021 and has just had surgery on her right racket-playing hand while she is set for two more procedures – one on her left hand – and another on her left ankle.

The 20-year-old British No.1 is set to fall outside of the world top 100 after the ongoing Madrid Open and Rogers, the former team doctor at Chelsea FC who now works as a medical adviser to the NBA, thinks we may not see her until 2024.

‘May, June, July, August… yeah it could be [too soon for Raducanu to play the US Open in 2023] because it’s not only that you’re fit enough to play, you have to be match fit,’ Rogers told Sky Sports.

‘You have to go through the rigours, you have to be able to spend three hours on the court.

‘She’s a heck of a prospect, I love watching her play, but we have to give her a chance to heal and maybe look towards next season.’

We’ll miss you this year, Emma – rest up and come back stronger 💜 💚

Rogers, quizzed about Raducanu’s long-term problems, added: ‘It’s reported she had surgeries to her right and left hand and also had back injuries she’s had to deal with, also ankle injuries, so there’s a whole biomechanical situation that has to be addressed.

‘It’s not just a wrist injury, there’s a whole biomechanical rehabilitation for her to come back. I don’t know what her status is in terms of biomechanics of her overall strength.

Serena Williams’ ex-coach desperate to work with Emma Raducanu

Why is Emma Raducanu struggling and how can she get back to her best?

‘The way she’s broken down as it would appear in the media, there seems to be maybe an underlying fundamental issue with strength that has to be addressed.

‘That’s totally up to her physiotherapist and trainer, I don’t like to speculate too much as to what her condition is.’
