Two Met officers suspended after woman claims she was kidnapped and raped

Two Metropolitan Police officers were arrested and suspended from duty after a woman accused three men of kidnapping and raping her.

One of the officers, who is based in the North West Command Unit, was taken into custody on Sunday, on suspicion of kidnap, rape and common assault.

He was released on bail until June on the rape allegation, but will face no further action over the other two claims.

A second constable, based in the same unit, was arrested on suspicion of kidnap and possession of class A drugs.

He was released with no further action, along with a non-police officer who was initially held on suspicion of kidnap.

The force said the arrests relate to an incident in Kingston, south west London, on Sunday when the officers were off-duty.

The force’s professional standards department has been told and the matter has been referred to watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

On Tuesday, it was reported that a senior officer who was caught routinely using sex workers was allowed to keep his £100,000 job.

The unnamed man, who is still serving in the force, allegedly paid hundreds of pounds for sex on a regular basis.

He held an important command position in 2019, when he is believed to have been busted after his phone was examined as part of an investigation into unrelated allegations, which were later dropped.

But instead of being hauled in front of a misconduct hearing, the middle-aged officer was given ‘words of advice’, according to the Daily Mail.

Just weeks ago, a damning report commissioned in the wake of Sarah Everard’s murder dubbed the Met institutionally racist, misogynist and homophobic.

The force was accused of failing to protect women from abusive officers, while organisational changes were said to have put women and children at greater risk.

Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley apologised ‘to Londoners and his own people in the Met’.

He said the report sparked ‘feelings of shame and anger’ but also ‘increases his resolve’ for reform.
