*Spoilers below*
Marvel fans worldwide are set to lap up the latest MCU release this week as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits cinema internationally, after a slightly earlier release in the UK on Wednesday May 3.
You can read our review here, but it’s safe to say from that and the movie’s trailer, there is a lot in store for Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, and the group as they grapple with their latest mission, one that is very close to their hearts.
A new villain is also introduced to audiences in the shape of Chukwudi Iwuji’s sinister High Evolutionary, who has murky links to Rocket Raccoon’s (Bradley Cooper) past.
Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Groot (Vin Diesel) are all back for one last hurrah together as well, alongside a much-changed Gamorah, played by Zoe Saladana – remember, this is the 2014 version of the character that came forward in time after being killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
But is this really the last time we will see everyone’s favourite bunch of misfits all together again? Are there any mid or post-credits scenes to tease the future of characters? And just how long does the run-time of their final adventure clock in at?
We answer all of these questions below – but spoilers abound! You have been warned.
What is the runtime of Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
There’s a whole lot in store for Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Drax (Dave Bautista), Peter (Chris Pratt), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and co this time around (Picture: Marvel Studios)
You’ll want to settle back in the comfiest seat possible for this film as writer-director James Gunn has given you a lot of bang for your buck when it comes to the story and action of GOTG 3.
The movie runs for a minute shy of two hours and 30 minutes, so 149 minutes to be exact.
This makes it the longest feature-length film for the Guardians, with the first practically breezing by in two hours and one minute, while Vol. 2 crept up to two hours and 16 minutes.
Does it have a post-credits scene? How many?
A lot of the narrative hinges on Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and his past (Picture: Marvel Studios)
Here it is, we’ve come to the meaty bit. If you want to remain completely spoiler-free, here’s your last chance to look away.
There are two scenes in the credits in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – one mid-credits and one post-credits, which seems to be the common practice now in recent MCU films.
Both tease futures for various beloved Guardians characters, but not necessarily together.
What happens in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 mid-credits scene?
The film offers a surprising narrative for Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), for those fans who haven’t read the comics (Picture: Marvel Studios/Jessica Miglio)
The mid-credits scene jumps forward a little in the future after Peter, Gamora, Mantis, Drax, Nebula have all gone their separate ways with various plans in place.
We pick up with Rocket, who is now the leader (or captain, as Peter insists) of the Guardians.
Groot is, of course, still by his side (and absolutely massive), but we find the gang’s new official members are Sean Gunn’s Kraglin Obfonteri and Cosmo the Space Dog (Maria Bakalova).
There’s also brand-new recruits Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) and Phylla-Vell, a sightly different version of the character to the comics, who was one of the girls recued by the Guardians from the High Evolutionary’s prison ship.

Passing the time of day together on a new planet they’ve come to help out, the crew chat about their favourite songs, with Rocket offering a sweet throwback to the first Guardians film and the franchise’s popular mixtape by opting for Redbone’s Come and Get Your Love.
As a mass of scary-looking creatures stampede towards them from the horizon, the new Guardians casually stir themselves so they’re ready to do battle.
There’s been no official word yet as to if these Guardians will return for their own film in the future, but Marvel has very much left the door open to it.

The post-credits scene hops down to visit Peter once more, after he opted to return home to Earth and visit his grandfather (Gregg Henry), with whom he had an emotional reunion at the end of the film.
They sit and enjoy breakfast together, as his grandfather reads the paper (which contains a fabulous Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Easter egg) and Peter discusses mowing the lawn.

After that scene of domestic peace and quiet – dare we even say mundanity? – in stark comparison with Peter’s life defending the Galaxy, a title on the screen reads: ‘The legendary Star-Lord will return’.
So, there you have it, another suggestion that it’s not all over for the Guardians just yet. They may not be back onscreen together any time soon, but there’s scope for these characters (and actors) to return after all.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is in cinemas now.
