Are post offices open during the coronation bank holiday Monday on May 8?

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last couple of months, you’re probably aware that King Charles III has *a bit of a do* scheduled to take place in London this weekend.

Speculation over who might be attending the new King’s coronation is rife, with all manner of celebrities, from David and Victoria Beckham to Zara and Mike Tindall, expected to make an appearance.

However, for those of us unbelievably still yet to receive an invitation to the big day, some aspects of day-to-day life probably need to go on regardless over the bank holiday weekend.

That said, many shops and services alter their open hours over bank holidays.

So, are Post Offices open this weekend?

Here is what you need to know.

Post office open hours on Coronation bank holiday Monday

Unfortunately, that complaint about not being invited to the coronation might have to be posted at a later date.

The best way to double-check the situation is by looking up the details of your local branch via the Post Office website.

Last bank holiday, the Post Office also advised customers to check their local branch’s social media for updates.

Will Royal Mail deliver post on the bank holiday?

It is worth noting that the Royal Mail website states, ‘We deliver and collect your mail on most days of the year, including Saturdays.

‘However, we don’t usually deliver or collect on public or local holidays.’

As such, there will be no collections or deliveries on Monday, May 8, and this is also expected to be the case for the Spring bank holiday on May 29.

So, should your post office be open, Royal Mail services may not be available.

However, services should still be available on Saturday, May 6 with the exception of some areas in London that have been shut in preparation for the coronation.

The Royal Mail website currently states: ‘For security reasons, access in the EC4V, SE1 7, SE1 8, SW1, W1J, W1K, WC2N and WC2R postcode areas is restricted on the following days: 

From 4pm on Tuesday, May 2 until 9am Wednesday, May 3 for Coronation preparations

From 7pm on Friday, May 5 until after the clear up on Saturday, 6 May

‘Customers in the area have been informed of disruption to deliveries, collections, and other services.

‘Our Customer Service Point at 9 Howick place, SW1P 1AA will be closed on Saturday, May 6.’
