Samsung employees have been banned from using popular AI tools like ChatGPT, Bard and Bing over security concerns.
On Monday, employees at one of the company’s biggest divisions were notified of the new policy, as reported by Bloomberg.
The ban follows reports of a data leak last month linked to Samsung employees pasting confidential source code into ChatGPT to check for errors.
The Economist Korea reported three separate instances of Samsung employees unintentionally leaking sensitive information to the viral chatbot.
One employee shared a recording of a meeting to convert into notes for a presentation.

This is bad news for Samsung as generative AI tools like ChatGPT keep no secrets. All data fed into the platforms is retained and used to further train the model.
‘HQ is reviewing security measures to create a secure environment for safely using generative AI to enhance employees’ productivity and efficiency,’ the memo said.
‘However, until these measures are prepared, we are temporarily restricting the use of generative AI.’
The new rules ban the use of generative AI systems on Samsung-owned computers, tablets and phones.
‘Interest in generative AI platforms such as ChatGPT has been growing internally and externally,’ Samsung told staff.
‘While this interest focuses on the usefulness and efficiency of these platforms, there are also growing concerns about security risks presented by generative AI.’
