    Dad ‘collapses in tears’ after only son, 8, killed after being hit by car

    An eight-year-old boy died after being hit by a car close to a north London shopping centre.

    Police were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Friday, April 28, at around 6.43pm in Green Lanes, Winchmore Hill.

    The child was taken to hospital where he later died.

    The driver of the car stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made at this stage.

    Witnesses told the Evening Standard the young boy’s father broke down in tears at the scene.

    He told the Standard: ‘Our waitress came off the bus and saw it happen and then saw the little boy.

    ‘I couldn’t face going out but my team did. I only saw the dad on the floor.

    ‘He had collapsed in shock. That’s what I saw, the medics were trying to wake him up.’

    He added: ‘My staff were all so traumatised when they came back. They all had tears in their eyes, it was awful. We heard that he was their only child.’

    The collision came the night before Enfield locals organised a ULEZ protest in the area.
