Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United are already in talks to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham in the summer.
The legendary defender made these comments just prior to United’s 2-2 draw at Spurs on Thursday night, where away fans could be heard chanting: ‘Harry Kane, we’ll see you in June!’
United were 2-0 up at half-time thanks to Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford but a spirited Spurs side battled back to earn a point courtesy of goals from Pedro Porro and Son Heung-min, the latter set up by Kane.
The striker has long been tipped to leave his boyhood club this summer with his contract up in 2024, and United are the frontrunner for his signature as Erik ten Hag looks to sign an elite striker.
Though he is Tottenham and England’s all-time leading scorer, the 29-year-old still hasn’t won a major trophy and with the Lilywhites a mess behind the scenes some believe he could be tempted to head to Old Trafford where things are looking up under Ten Hag.
Though there are reports that United do not want to get into a prolonged transfer saga with Kane, like they did with Frenkie de Jong last summer, Ferdinand thinks negoiations may have already begun.
‘If there aren’t conversations going on in the corridors of power at Manchester United and Mr. Daniel Levy here about this man, I’d be very surprised,’ the former centre-back told BT Sport.

‘Start now before the season even finishes. Look at the situation with Spurs now. We’ve spoken about how much turmoil they’re in now. United have got to be looking at that and thinking, “get it done”.
‘They go closer to winning the league [if they sign Kane]. It’s too long [if he waits another year until his contract is up].’

Though Tottenham continue to struggle Kane has put in yet another fantastic shift this season, scoring 26 goals and five assists in 44 games across all competitions.
He is not the only No.9 United are looking at however, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen also heavily linked with the Red Devils.
