A woman has been jailed after attacking a neighbour with an electric drill despite her having nothing to do with an argument between their families.
Former care worker Jade Kent burst into Amy Hardman’s home, held her down in a chair, and rammed the power tool against her head while shouting ‘I’m going to f****** kill you’.
Kent, 31, was seeking revenge after her seven-year-old daughter supposedly received ‘inappropriate’ messages from the eight-year-old nephew of Miss Hardman’s boyfriend.
Miss Hardman, 39, has arthritis and uses a mobility scooter. While trying to get away from the drill she suffered multiple cuts to her skull and was stabbed in the arm.
The incident happened on May 29 2022. Geoff Whelan, prosecuting, told Manchester crown court: ‘At 11am Amy’s partner Stephen Burns took their French bulldog for a walk with his eight-year-old nephew.
‘They came across the defendant who got into argument with him over a text the nephew had sent to her daughter some months previously.
‘She called the boy a “f****** little nonce” but Mr Burns pointed out that his nephew was just eight years old and told her to go home.
‘The defendant did indeed go home, but just six minutes later she was seen running down the street carrying something in her hand and then entering Amy’s home.

‘The victim was sitting alone in the dining room whilst her 13-year-old daughter was upstairs.
‘Amy heard the door bang open as it though it had been kicked in and the defendant forced her way in.
‘Amy shouted “what’s going on?” and the defendant was stood in the hallway looking directly at her with a “crazed look” on her face. The defendant ran at her shouting “I’m going to f****** kill you, you hear me?
“The defendant thrust her knee into Amy’s abdomen forcing her backwards and then pinned her down in her seat.
‘She was brandishing a power tool saying “Have you seen this drill?” and then forced the drill against the back of Amy’s head just behind her ear.

‘Amy was terrified and she thought she was going to die.
‘During the struggle the drill was scraping across her head and the defendant was trying to push the drill into her head anyway she could.
‘Amy tried to slump further down but the defendant persisted and pushed the drill further down in to her neck, causing the victim excruciating pain.
‘The drill was also pushed into her arm which was cut and bled straight away.
‘The defendant then took her leg off Amy, dragged her to the floor by her hair and proceeded to kick her in the chest and abdomen.
‘Amy curled up in a ball and begged: “Please stop – I’m disabled” but the defendant stood over Amy and stamped down on her face and followed it up with further kicks to the abdomen and back.
‘She then again stamped down with full force on Amy’s face.’

Kent ran away, leaving her victim in a pool of blood.
Miss Hardman suffered cuts to her scalp and neck, skin loss around her arm, and she also underwent a CT scan over fears she may have suffered brain injuries.
Her teenage daughter hid in her bedroom during the assault as she was scared of being injured herself.
In a statement Miss Hardman said: ‘This attack did not end when Jade left my house. Every time I look in the mirror now I am reminded of what she did to me.
‘I did absolutely nothing to deserve scarring on my body. The pain and shock of these physical wounds were bad enough at the time but the permanent scars serve as a constant reminder of a violent and unprovoked attack in my own home.
‘The physical injuries are one thing but mental impact on both myself and my daughter has been unbearable.
‘She thought I was dead and hearing her say that fills me with emotions I cannot describe. It is something a young child should never have to witness.’

When police arrived at Kent’s home to arrest her she repeatedly cried ‘I’m sorry’ and gave no comment in her police interview. The drill and screwdriver bit were found in her home.
Kent, of Abbey Hey in Gorton, Manchester, had a previous conviction for battery and racially aggravated threatening behaviour dating back to when she was a youth.
She pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and aggravated burglary. Her not guilty plea to attempted murder was accepted by the prosecution.
Kent was sentenced to five years and four months in prison and was given an indefinite restraining order, banning her from contacting Miss Hardman again.
In her defence, Rachel Shenton said: ‘This was a moment of madness and a loss of control.
‘Immediately afterwards she expressed remorse and regret in the strongest possible terms and was saying “I’m sorry” about ten times as she was being arrested.

‘She says binge drinking is an issue for her and she accepts she is loud in drink. She did not even know Miss Hardman but she had a dispute with Mr Burns relating to his young nephew who sent inappropriate voice notes to Miss Kent’s daughter.
‘This was raised with Mr Burns and he dealt with it appropriately but there was a further argument about it on this particular day.’
During sentencing, Judge Nicholas Dean KC told Kent: ‘You behaviour was inexcusable and horrific. You attacked a woman with her own vulnerabilities for no reason at all other than that you had wound yourself up as a consequence of your encounter with Mr Burns and your concerns about his nephew.
‘The photographs of Amy’s injuries are shocking to behold. You made a complete mess of her using the drill in the way that you did. This attack could have proved deadly.’
