Manchester United have held talks with the representatives of Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister with a view to signing the Argentine.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic season with the Seagulls, which has seen him net ten times in 31 matches this term.
The midfielder was a key part of Argentina’s World Cup-winning side in December and his performances in Qatar are said to have impressed Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman wants to add more creativity to his midfield given the side’s reliance on Bruno Fernandes and the impact that Christian Eriksen’s absence had on the team.
Mac Allister signed a new deal with the Seagulls in November and Brighton are famously good negotiators.
But Fabrizio Romano says United are ready to test the waters and have already held talks with Mac Allister’s representatives.

It’s likely United’s early move is at least in part down to interest from Liverpool in Mac Allister.
Jurgen Klopp wants to revamp Liverpool’s midfield but United will likely be able to offer the midfielder Champions League football, as well as the chance to play with countryman Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho.
Romano claims Mac Allister wants to stay in England and to complete an early summer exit away from Brighton.
The Argentine does not want the saga to drag over the summer and wants his next club sorted as soon as possible.
