Leicester City star James Maddison hailed Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the ‘best one-on-one defender in world football’ following Manchester United’s win against Brighton in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Erik ten Hag’s side bounced back from a demoralising Europa League exit to Sevilla to book a spot in the FA Cup final to play rivals Manchester City.
The win came via a penalty shootout as the two teams played out a 0-0 draw over 120 minutes.
In what was an even game, United had Wan-Bissaka to thank for keeping Kaoru Mitoma quiet throughout.
The Japanese playmaker has been in sensational form for the Seagulls this season but he was nullified by Wan-Bissaka at Wembley.
The defender takes regular criticism for his lack of attacking output but there’s no doubting his ability in defending.
And Maddison, who was a boyhood United fan, says Wan-Bissaka is the best one-on-one defender in the world.
‘AWB is ridiculously good a 1 vs 1 defending,’ said Maddison.
‘Probably the best in the world bar none.
‘So many wingers run out of ideas when playing directly against him.’
