Today is UNESCO’s World Book Day, so we’re offering up some astrological advice to help you pick your next new favourite.
I love reading. I am at my local library twice a week and I spend more time reading than anything else other than sleeping.
Let me share some of my recent favourites which I have, cunningly, matched up to your star sign. That said, they are all excellent, so if you wish to poach a book from another star sign, then you carry on!
As George RR Martin said: ‘A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.’
Aries
Five Minds by Guy Morpuss
You love novels that surprise you (Picture: Amazon)
Guy Morpuss has created an original concept set in the future where humans can choose to share one body in order to live a much longer life, albeit they only live for a portion of each day and then go ‘dormant’ whilst their body sharers have their time.
Wow. It’s a mind bender and this kind of physical, extreme, quantity vs quality of life intrigues you. Aries, you’re hungry for life, for action, for seeing more of everything. Would you sign up for this? Maybe…

Taurus
Triflers Need Not Apply by Camilla Bruce
Ready for some retribution reading? (Picture: Amazon)
True stories appeal to you and this tale follows one of history’s female serial killers, Belle Gunness, whose killing spree began in Chicago in 1900. She basically doesn’t like men very much, and for fair enough reason I suppose given her childhood. She is sympathetic and terrifying and ruthless and terrible.
Taureans understand rage, understand doing whatever it takes to get what you want, and the urge to remove those in your way. Don’t be getting ideas now…
Gemini
The Watchers by AM Shine
It’s a spooky one (Picture: Amazon)
I am a Gemini and I love horror, so I have shamelessly picked this scary tale for my fellow Gemmys as I know we all like a thrill and to experience a shiver down the spine. I can’t say too much because it will reveal the twist but do be aware that the nature of the monsters in this book is relevant to our sign.
A group of people find themselves stranded and trapped inside a cabin in a vast forest and they can’t escape because there’s something outside which wants to kill them. Gulp.
Cancer
The Last Tale Of The Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi
Cancerians love a romance novel (Picture: Amazon)
Cancer, you’re a hopeless romantic and love tales of devotion and love, especially if there’s a shadowy tinge or someone goes a bit overboard.
This story of two friends who become obsessed with each other and believe they’re living in an enchanted kingdom will enthral you. Whimsical, fairytale-like and tinged with darkness. Told in flashbacks. Yields a surprising twist. Relationships can be poison as well as nectar.

Leo
The Daughter Of Dr Moreau by Silvia Moreno Garcia
This book is as clever and intriguing as you, Leo (Picture: Amazon)
Leo, you’re an animalistic sign in that you’re natural, proud in who you are, raw, and physically intelligent.
This tale which re-imagines the classic horror from the perspective of Dr Moreau’s daughter will intrigue you. Dr Moreau, in case you didn’t know, was a mad professor type who liked to mix animal with human DNA and organisms to create weird hybrids and they all lived together on an island. Creepy!

Virgo
That Bonesetter Woman by Frances Quinn
Virgo is a grafter just like Endurance Proudfoot (Picture: Amazon)
Set in Georgian England, Endurance Proudfoot is a strong, tall woman who wants to become a bone-setter (literally what it sounds like) just her father before her, but is faced by prejudice and sexism across the board. She just wants to do what she’s good at!
This will resonate with you, Virgo, as this wonderful character struggles to make her way in a world set on trying to turn her into something she’s not. It was a wonderful, feel good story.

Libra
Cackle by Rachel Harrison
Add a little magic to your reading list (Picture: Amazon)
This contemporary little witch story felt like Salem mingled with Sex in the City so I know you’ll love it. Magic and romance!
Play-it-safe Annie leaves her boyfriend and moves to a new town to start over. The town seems a little strange and soon she meets Sophie who appears to be the town’s resident witch. But is she a good witch… or not? They begin an unlikely friendship and mayhem ensues. Enchanting and entertaining.

Scorpio
The Change by Kirsten Miller
Get yourself some new feminist heroes (Picture: Amazon)
Three menopausal women join forces, find their magic powers, and tackle the string of unsolved disappearances and murders in their town, tracking down a serial killer at large.
A heartwarming, compelling feminist revenge fantasy. It does make some strong social points about how menopausal women are treated but it’s also just a great story and whodunnit. Couldn’t put it down. You love fearless women so you’ll love this!
Sagittarius
Verity by Colleen Hoover
Colleen Hoover is a BookTok favourite (Picture: Amazon)
You need a book that keeps you guessing and has a cliffhanger at the end of every page, and Verity by Colleen Hoover definitely delivers. You will want to read it in one go!
Lowen is a struggling writer offered a weird, but well-paid, assignment to finish the book of a woman lying in a coma, and she has to move in with the family to do so in order to access her notes and lifestyle. Things get real weird real fast.

Capricorn
The Tsarina’s Daughter by Ellen Alpsten
Looking for something to fill the void Succession left in your life? (Picture: Amazon)
Power dynamics and struggles are your cup of tea (hello Succession) and this tale of Elizabeth, daughter of Catherine I and Peter the Great, delivers in spades.
Very Games of Thrones but amongst a real historical family. I thought it was all made up but, no, much of this stuff actually happened. Real life is stranger than drama. This story is bloodthirsty, compelling, and gripping. Life was hard, even for the powerful.

A perfect page-turner for Pisces (Picture: Amazon)
A beautiful sea-scape mystery (and you are ruled by fishes cosmically, so this will appeal to you).
