Danny Murphy believes Liverpool should avoid making a move for Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister who is also wanted by Manchester United and Chelsea.
Mac Allister has been one of the star midfielders this season, helping propel Brighton up to seventh in the Premier League table and an FA Cup semi-final, whilst also winning the World Cup with Argentina.
Naturally, the 24-year-old has received plenty of interest from rival clubs in England, with Liverpool, United and Chelsea poised to make a summer move for the player.
Though the Seagulls are keen to hold onto their best assets, with the likes of Moises Caicedo and Kaoru Mitoma also linked with big money moves, last week Mac Allister’s father and agent said he was ‘most likely’ to leave the Amex this summer.
However, while Murphy has been impressed with his performances, the Liverpool icon is not convinced he would be a good fit at Anfield, telling talkSPORT: ‘You would have to spend probably £60million for Mac Allister.
‘I wouldn’t spend that. I don’t think he is what Liverpool need. I think they need two or three [new midfielders].
‘He is a super player. I like him a lot. Brilliant technician. Clever footballer. But I think Liverpool need legs if Klopp is going to continually play the way he does.

‘Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain] will go, [James] Milner will go, [Naby] Keita will go.
‘[Mason] Mount would be good value because he’s got a year left. You’re not going to have to pay silly money for him.’
Chelsea star Mount has also been heavily linked with Anfield, even more so after the Reds said they would not be signing his England teammate Jude Bellingham who is expected to cost upwards on £100m if he leaves Dortmund this summer.

As Murphy says, Klopp and co. will need to spread their transfer budget over several new midfielders with injury and form problems in that position badly affecting Liverpool’s campaign, not to mention the trio that are out of contract.
Other names that have been linked with Liverpool include Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella.
In the meantime, the Reds’ quest to finish in the top four continues with a home game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
