We suggest budget travellers can expect to spend around €50-€70 per day on food, transportation, and attractions. This will cover basic meals, public transportation and entrance fees to some museums and attractions.
If you want a little more luxury or want to take advantage of the thriving nightlife or shopping scene, you will have to consider how that will affect your budget.
We’d suggest you spend around €106 (£94) per day on a trip to Amsterdam. This is a really mid-range trip, which would allow you most of the major attractions, a bit of shopping, a big night out and a few fancy restaurants.
If you’re not fused about travel, consider walking or biking place to save money – although it’s worth noting a travel day pass only costs around €8.50. If food isn’t a top priority to you, consider street food instead of restaurants – but for some people, dining is an important part of travelling, so if this isn’t an area you want to cut back on, look for other places you could make cuts.
How much spending money you should budget for really depends on what your interests are. Before you book your trip, write down what’s most important. Some will be willing to stay in budget-friendly hotels to have more spending money, others would be happy to walk places to save whilst for others may want to create a larger budget for shopping or attractions.
Once you’ve decided what your interests in the city are – make a plan and work out where to cut costs, if you need to.
