Emma Raducanu has provided an update on her wrist injury after she was eliminated in the first round of the Miami Open on Wednesday.

The British No.1 was unable to build on her impressive last-16 run at Indian Wells and fell at the first hurdle to Canada’s world No.31 Bianca Andreescu.

Raducanu, who will next play at the Stuttgart Open in April as the clay-court season gets up and running, spoke about her injuries after defeat to Andreescu.

‘I just need to review after this tournament really and figure out what my next steps are,’ the 20-year-old told the WTA website.

‘We have been managing it, keeping on top of it. I’m able to play in the short term. But the current solutions aren’t very viable long term.’

Raducanu won the US Open as a qualifier in 2021 but has not lifted a title on the WTA Tour since and is now ranked world No.72.

She had shown improvements in 2023, though, and her run to the last 16 at Indian Wells was her best run at a tournament since that Flushing Meadows win.

Raducanu only lost to world No.1 Iga Swiatek having knocked out Magda Linette and Beatriz Haddad Maia in California, seeded 20th and 13th respectively.

‘I think that I’m doing the right things day to day, which brings me confidence,’ Raducanu added.

‘I feel like this year has been difficult in the sense that I have been managing a few existing injuries.

‘Yeah, that has been annoying and frustrating because I’ve been working as best as I can.

I feel like I’m enjoying the competition. Yeah, just really, really happy to be on the match court.’

Raducanu will now be looking to climb the rankings on clay before the second Grand Slam of the year – the French Open – gets started at the end of May.
