Busted tease comeback and fans are going suitably nuts

Could this be the day…? (Picture: @busted /Getty Images)

Stop what you’re doing immediately, because Busted have teased that a big announcement could be coming this Friday and, naturally, everyone has lost it.

The pop group – comprising 39-year-olds Charlie Simpson, James Bourne and Matt Willis – have changed all of the band’s social media banners to include the date of March 23, cryptically teasing that they are set to announce a comeback on that very day.

We are pinching ourselves that it’s already been 20 years since Busted jumped into our lives with spikey, windswept and, er, normal hair back in 2002 with absolute classics like What I Go To School For, Air Hostess, Year 3000 and, oh my, so many more.

But now they could be making a comeback and with this most recent tease from the band, surely this is the moment we’ve all been waiting for?

If not, fans who reacted to the banner change will be incredibly disappointed, as one person keyboard-screamed: ‘I CABNOT COPE’. [sic]

Another reckoned it was time to get their dusty Busted posters out once again, while a third said: ‘I am so hyped for this, can’t wait it’s going to be amazing!!!’

Not to be too dramatic, or anything, one fan commented: ‘not to be dramatic or anything but SCREAMIN CRYING THROWIN UP’.

Whispers of a comeback have circulated since 2000s heartthrob Charlie told Lorraine on the ITV interview show ‘there may be some plans’ when asked about a comeback.

‘It is the 20 year anniversary for Busted this year,’ he added.

‘Sworn to secrecy again… but there may be some stuff in the pipeline.’

This comes after fans watched Charlie win The Masked Singer in a shock reveal that put the band in the forefront of fans’ minds once more since their dramatic 2005 split.

Ever since, Matt has continued working in theatre and TV and has opened up about his experiences with addiction in the BBC documentary, Matt Willis: Addiction And Me.

James has written many songs since the band split, including ones for McFly and mash-up group McBusted.

The Year 3000 hitmakers went back to their punky roots on their latest 2019 LP Half Way There, but put a modern twist on their classic sound.

After the record proved a success as it reached number two in the UK chart, when asked how they’d ever top such a feat, James explained their new music will be even ‘better’.

When one fan asked when their next record will be out, he replied on Twitter: ‘Our albums will keep getting better. Trust me on that. I feel like we’re just finding our rhythm.’
