The Resident Evil 4 remake is finally arriving on next gen consoles and PC this week, with improved graphics and a reimagined story.

The original Resident Evil 4 was hailed as a modern classic when it was originally released on the GameCube back in 2005, setting a precedent for all action games that came after it.

Fans of the horror game franchise have been speculating for years whether Capcom will remake its fourth installment, seeing that Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3 were all revived at some point.

Now that the time has come for the Resident Evil 4 remake to take centre stage, you can start to anticipate what is already being hailed as one of the best games of the year.

Can you play the Resident Evil 4 remake on PS4 and Xbox One?

As some companies prioritise next generation consoles, it’s no longer guaranteed that all new games will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

As such, the Resident Evil 4 remake will be available on PlayStation 4 but not Xbox One.

Although the announcement initially caused confusion amongst fans, it’s not as surprising as Sony does have the home field advantage when it comes to companies like Capcom.

Moreover, if you prefer a more compact style of gaming, you won’t be able to enjoy the Resident Evil 4 remake either, as it’s not arriving to the Nintendo Switch any time soon.

Besides PlayStation 4, the game will also be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and on Steam.

What’s the release date of the Resident Evil 4 remake?

The official release date for the Resident Evil 4 remake is Friday, March 24, with pre-orders having been available for some time now.

Once the clock strikes midnight, the game can be downloaded from your console’s digital store, Steam, or you can purchase its physical version from any standard games retailer.

Some games grant players with early access for purchasing special editions, but sadly that won’t be the case with the Resident Evil 4 remake.

However, you can still get a taste of what’s to come as you can download its Chainsaw Demo for free and play a specially tuned version of the game’s opening sequence.

How much does the Resident Evil 4 remake cost?

The standard edition of the Resident Evil 4 remake comes with a price tag of £54.99 on the PlayStation Store.

The Xbox Series X/S standard edition will cost an extra £2.99, priced at £57.98, even though it comes with the exact same content.

As it usually goes, the game is slightly cheaper on PC, where it costs £49.99.

Is there a deluxe edition of the Resident Evil 4 remake?

There are several special editions to choose from depending on how much cash you want to burn.

The digital Deluxe Edition is priced at £64.99 for PlayStation and £65.98 Xbox Series X/S, meaning you’ll need to spend an extra £10 for it. The same edition for PC will cost you £57.98.

Besides the base game, the digital Deluxe Edition comes with an extra DLC pack. Here’s what it includes:

‘Casual’ costumes for Leon and Ashley

‘Romantic’ costumes for Leon and Ashley

‘Hero’ Leon Costume and gameplay filter

‘Villain’ Leon Costume and gameplay filter

The ‘Sentinel Nine’ deluxe weapon: Sentinel Nine

    The ‘Skull Shaker’ deluxe weapon

    An additional treasure map

The ‘Sunglasses (Sporty)’ accessory for Leon

    The Original Ver. soundtrack swap

The Deluxe Edition boasts loads of freebies (pic: Capcom)

Players that pre-order either the standard or digital Deluxe editions will also get two styles for the attaché case and two charms.

For those willing to go the extra mile for their Resident Evil fix, a Collector’s Edition is also available. This exclusive edition is only available in physical form for PlayStation and Xbox Series X/S consoles, and carries a price tag of £249.99.

But don’t worry, you get a lot of bang for your buck as it comes with a shiny steelbook, a figure of Leon, the game’s artbook, and a poster to decorate your wall. You’ll also receive an additional, super-secret DLC pack.

Will the Resident Evil 4 remake get a VR mode?

Capcom has already confirmed that the Resident Evil 4 remake’s VR mode is in development, but it won’t be completed for several months.

It’s still unknown whether the PlayStation VR2 feature in the Resident Evil 4 remake will encompass the whole game, as was the case with Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village, but that’s the assumption.

Of course, dedicated Resident Evil 4 fans know this won’t be the first time the game is available to play in VR.

The original game has already been adapted for VR, developed by Armature Studios for the Meta Quest 2 and released in 2021.
