Goncalves mimicked Xhaka’s goal celebration at full-time (Picture: Getty)
Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Goncalves trolled Granit Xhaka by mimicking the Arsenal star’s celebration he had dedicated to his daughter after the Gunners were dumped out of the Europa League.
After a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Portuguese capital last week, Xhaka got Mikel Arteta’s side up and running at the Emirates on Thursday, lashing home after 19 minutes after Gabriel Martinelli’s effort was saved.
Goncalves levelled the contest just after the hour mark with a stunning goal of the season contender, beating Aaron Ramsdale with a breath-taking lob from the halfway line.
Antonio Adan was in inspired form in the Sporting goal, making crucial saves in extra time as the contest went to penalties.
Adan was again the hero in the shoot-out, keeping out Martinelli’s effort to send his side into the quarter-finals of the competition.
As Sporting players ran to celebrate with their fans in the away end, Goncalves was seen mimicking Xhaka’s earlier goal celebration.
The Switzerland midfielder had dedicated his goal to his young daughter Ayana. During the match, his wife Leonita shared a clip of their child repeating the celebration right back to her father as she watched him put Arsenal ahead on television.
