Cheryl gets spooked at 2:22 A Ghost Story as fan forgets flash is on and her reaction is priceless

Never mind her spooky, supernatural West End play, apparently the real scaries happen outside the Lyric Theatre for Cheryl.

The Girls Aloud star, 39, got a, er, bit of a fright when a 2:22 A Ghost Story fan filmed Cheryl as she exited the theatre after another performance of the Olivier Award-winning play.

The spooky saga, written by BBC podcaster Danny Robbins, has a history of casting celebrities in Cheryl’s role of Jenny.

First came Lily Allen, then ex-Love Island host Laura Whitemore, and now Cheryl -formerly Tweedy and Cole – is following in their footsteps to portray a woman who is convinced her house is haunted.

As the title suggests, she just could be right…

But it’s not the play that had Cheryl jumping out of her skin at last night’s London performance.

A video which has emerged on Twitter captured the moment a fan left their flash on while filming Cheryl, much to the star’s surprise.

The flummoxed snapper was taken aback when Cheryl had a pretty hilarious reaction to the glaring flash from her phone.

The Fight For This Love singer recoiled dramatically with shock, her eyes wide a bit like, well, she’d just seen a ghost.

‘Sorry, that was me, sorry,’ the fan said quickly upon the star’s theatrical reaction.

Cheryl looked genuinely terrified, and we will be pretty surprised if this doesn’t turn into a GIF very soon indeed.

Afterwards the Geordie star played it off in style with a dazzling grin as she greeted other fans.

The Love Machine hitmaker has been pictured beaming on leaving the theatre on multiple occasions over the past few months of shows, and she seems to be buzzing about the opportunity.

Indeed, in an exclusive interview with Metro’s Guilty Pleasures, the X Factor star said she segued into theatre after no longer feeling challenged in her career.

‘We just celebrated 20 years since we got in Girls Aloud a couple of months ago, and for that 20 year, I feel like I’ve done it all, five times. It’s second nature to me now. It’s not challenging any more,’ she said.

The star admitted she was worried about stepping up to the role, but she needn’t have been as the show was met with rave reviews on its opening night in January.

2:22 A Ghost Story is running until April 23 at the Lyric Theatre, London.
