Stuart Bingham is struggling to find the answer to his eyesight struggles as he fights to turn his form around after a season to forget.

The former world champion has not been made the quarter-finals of any ranking events this season, languishing down at number 36 on the one-year rankings.

The 46-year-old did make an impressive run to the semi-finals of the Masters, when he mentioned he had been suffering with eye problems.

Things are yet to improve on that front, and despite a 4-0 win over Ng On Yee at the WST Classic on Thursday, it is proving to be a struggle.

‘My eyes are not lining up correctly,’ he explained. ‘I’m trying contacts, glasses, things like that, but it’s weird.

‘I played Shaun [Murphy] at the Masters, didn’t have glasses on and played unbelievable. It’s either really hot or really cold. I’m just trying to find a consistent game at the moment, I’m working on it.’

Players have resorted to laser eye surgery in the past to fix eyesight issues, notably Judd Trump with great success, but that option isn’t available to Bingham yet.

‘I did look into it but they sad my eyes ain’t bad enough for laser,’ he said. ‘I just need the glasses for reading usually, but I feel like if the ball’s close I just can’t really see some angles. Sometimes I’ve just got to more or less close my eyes and do a Mark Williams…just hit it!’

Speaking at the Masters in January, Bingham explained how contact lenses had been something of a help, but he is still yet to find an ideal solution.

However, working with coach Chris Henry, while he cannot sort his eyes out, he can give him a boost in confidence.

‘At the moment I put them in and everything seems like HD, but there isn’t much difference in seeing the end of the table, it’s more close up that I’m struggling with at the moment,’ Bingham said in January.

‘The last couple of months have been tough on the tour, but I’ve just started with a new coach to move things in the right way.’

Adding in Leicester this week: ‘It’s more he gives me confidence in myself, instead of worrying about that, just play. I’m over-thinking everything and sometimes that only hinders.’
