Juliet Nightingale (Niamh Blackshaw) vowed to spend the rest of her life with Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) in powerful Hollyoaks scenes, as the couple made a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Brighton.
Peri organised the adventure after learning just how much her beloved Juliet had wanted to go to the seaside as a child, surprising her with the news last week, with James (Gregory Finnegan) agreeing to bankroll the trip.
Monday’s (March 13) first-look offering of the Channel 4 soap saw the couple set off on their adventure, and within seconds of arriving in Brighton, they were overwhelmed by the sheer scale of everything.
After a romantic afternoon in the luxury hotel, Peri and Juliet ventured out into Brighton, taking part in every possible activity along the way, including a go on a merry-go-round and some fun in the arcade, before enjoying an ice-cream by the sea.
Peri revealed that she had won a ‘tacky’ ring at the arcade, which prompted Juliet to joke about how ridiculous it would be if they got engaged by the sea, unaware that Peri was actually planning to propose.
The penny dropped for Juliet, who was apologetic, but made it clear that she didn’t want to get engaged. Not because she doesn’t love Peri, but because she fears that – if they got engaged now – it would feel like it was because of her illness, rather than about their love.

Peri understood, and the two shared a heartfelt moment on the beach, as Juliet professed her love for the nurse with marriage-esque vows, before putting the toy ring on her finger.
‘Who needs a wedding when we’ve got Brighton?’, exclaimed Jules, before adding: ‘We might not be married or even engaged, but I call upon these seagulls here present to witness that I, Juliet, take thee, Peri, to be the one that I want to spend the rest of my days with.

‘Nothing else matters but us’, concluded Jules, which was a sentiment that Peri echoed, with the pair sharing a special moment together.
No, you’re crying.
There was heartbreak later, however, as Peri realised she’d misplaced her bag, meaning that they’d lost all of their belongings, but before long, a saviour arrived in the form of Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard, who offered to take them home.
A beautifully-penned episode by writer Shaun Kitchener, which we reckon not only lived up to expectations, but exceeded them. You won’t want to miss the next outing either, so make sure you tune in!
Hollyoaks continues Tuesday March 14 at 7pm on E4, or stream the next episode on All4 at midnight.
