Daisy May Cooper has admitted that the joke that she made at the expense of the Sugababes at this year’s Brit Awards ‘didn’t come across’ the way that she had intended.
There were many big talking points from the 2023 awards show, which celebrated the best and the brightest artists in the music industry in the UK and around the world.
However, one particular moment that had people’s tongues wagging came when This Country star Daisy arrived on stage to present the accolade for best alternative rock.
She explained that she had seen the pop trio the Sugababes in the bathroom, adding: ‘And they weren’t doing coke – they were lovely,’ in a quip that ITV failed to mute at the last minute.
Numerous people watching the programme found the gag hilarious, and now almost a month later, Daisy has shared what the aftermath was like for her.
‘I had the horrors so much the next day, that didn’t come across the way I wanted it to,’ the 36-year-old confessed to Bustle.

The actor added that when she saw the band in the bathroom, they were simply doing their lip liner ‘and they were lovely’.
‘It came across so bad you know,’ Daisy remarked, before also adding: ‘But I couldn’t give a f**k ‘cause it came from a good place.’
People watching the Brit Awards should have been prepared for Daisy to deliver a laugh-out-loud moment, as she had warned prior to the event that her appearance would be ‘messy’.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Roman Kemp asked her on the radio show Capital Breakfast: ‘Oh God what is the Brits night look like for you?’
‘Urr…Messy… it’s gonna be good,’ she replied at the time.
Roman’s co-host Chris Stark then told her: ‘You could cause a scene at the Brits as you’re the perfect character to go and do something mad.’
Earlier this year, Daisy was unveiled as one of the performers on The Masked Singer UK, having been competing as the adorable Otter.
‘I loved every single second of it. I did this for my daughter Pip, who is a massive fan of the show,’ she said after she was unmasked.
