Casemiro could be set to miss Manchester United’s Europa League last 16 clash on Thursday night, according to reports.
The Brazil international midfielder has been one of United’s best players this season after he arrived at Old Trafford in the summer from Real Madrid.
Casemiro had a performance to forget in United’s last match, however, with the Red Devils suffering a historic 7-0 defeat to arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
The five-time Champions League winner may now be absent for United’s next fixture as they take on Real Betis in the first leg of their last 16 Europa League tie.
That’s according to ESPN, who report that the 31-year-old picked up an injury against Liverpool and will now be assessed by medical staff ahead of Thursday.
Gary Neville recently lauded Casemiro and the impact he has had on his United team-mates.
‘We talk about him a lot now, but what Casemiro has done to that dressing room and that team is off the scale,’ Neville said after the FA Cup win over West Ham.
‘He just looks at this moment in time that he is in complete control of that team. He looks like such a dominant force.’
Jamie Carragher, meanwhile, accused Casemiro and other United star players of ‘going missing’ in the 7-0 defeat to Liverpool.
The result saw United suffer their joint-heaviest ever competitive defeat, alongside 7-0 losses to Wolves in 1931, Aston Villa in 1930 and Blackburn in 1926.
