Resident Evil 4 remake is twice as big as Village at 67 GB

As Capcom launches a teaser website for the Resident Evil 4 remake, fans have discovered it’s the biggest entry in the series ever.

With a modern visual makeover and brand new elements to go alongside the classic hallmarks, Resident Evil 4 looks to be a far beefier experience than any of the previous remakes.

The game is out in only a couple of weeks and is already available to pre-load on the Xbox Series X/S, which has given away precisely how much storage space the game requires.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, this looks to be the biggest Resident Evil game yet, as it demands a whopping 67.18 GB.

While this is just for the Xbox version of the game, it stands to reason that it will be roughly the same for the PC and PlayStation versions too.

As a reminder, the remake will come to both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, but not the Xbox One.

As pointed out by WhatIfGaming, this is far bigger than any previous Resident Evil title, which usually clock in at less than 40 GB.

There’s no word on when pre-loads will be available on PlayStation (pic: WhatIfGaming)

The Gold Edition re-release of Resident Evil Village, for example, which bundled the game with additional DLC, requires 30.66 GB on Xbox, less than half of what the Resident Evil 4 remake needs.

It also dwarfs the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, which require 23.07 GB and 28.75 GB, respectively.

That number will only go up if Capcom decides to release some substantial DLC for the remake. However, nothing’s been confirmed yet, beyond some extra costumes and weapons that come bundled with the special editions.

With the original game’s Separate Ways campaign missing from the remake it’s speculated that it could be added as DLC later down the line, which most fans would be happy to see.

In the meantime, to drum up more excitement for the remake’s launch, Capcom has put out a teaser website that’s meant to serve as a backstory to Resident Evil 4’s plot.

It’s wholly interactive, with you taking the role of an agent helping to locate the whereabouts of Ashley Graham, the president’s daughter – who protagonist Leon needs to rescue in the game.

It’s a fun novelty where you receive messages from other agents, scour through documents, and solve puzzles. Just a head’s up, the first puzzle, involving putting together pieces of a shredded document, can be incredibly finicky and requires you to be super precise with where you place some of them the pieces.

If you want to try it yourself, you can find the website here.

The Resident Evil 4 remake launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC on March 24.
