Uncharted 4 – a new Uncharted sequel is looking more and more likely (pic: Sony)
A new Sony studio is working with Naughty Dog on a ‘beloved franchise,’ which can really only be Uncharted.
Naughty Dog has so far only announced one project that it has in active development – the Last Of Us multiplayer spin-off – but there are signs that it has a couple more in the pipeline as well.
Last week, Sony posted a job listing that mentioned a ‘high visibility project’ that’s being made in collaboration with Naughty Dog.
More recently, another was spotted for an internship at a new studio in San Diego, one that’s also working with Naughty Dog on a ‘beloved franchise.’
Whether or not this is related to the job listing from last week, the fact that it specifies a ‘beloved franchise’ only further points to Uncharted returning, potentially with an Uncharted 5.
At first Naughty Dog seemed keen to draw a line under the series with Uncharted 4, but recently they’ve appeared more open to bringing it back – even if they don’t make it themselves.
A LinkedIn post back in April mentioned that the studio was building new teams for ‘the legacy of Uncharted,’ basically confirming that new projects were underway.
Granted, the new job listing (which can be viewed here) doesn’t name a specific franchise but out of all of Naughty Dog’s IPs, Uncharted feels like the only plausible option.
Sorry Jak And Daxter fans, but that series has never been as popular as Uncharted and is unlikely to see a revival any time soon, unless that supposed movie adaptation makes a lot of money.
It obviously can’t be Crash Bandicoot, either, since the IP was sold to Activision, and how many of you have even heard of Way Of The Warrior or Rings Of Power (no, not the Amazon show, the Sega Mega Drive role-player)?
It could always be another Last Of Us title, but having two Last Of Us spin-offs in development at the same time seems a bit much. Naughty Dog certainly wouldn’t let another studio, let alone a brand new one, helm a proper sequel.
It’s already been suggested that Sony tried to get a new Uncharted off the ground in the past. Last year, a Bloomberg report claimed that a team within Sony Bend (the Days Gone studio) was tasked with making an Uncharted game under Naughty Dog’s supervision.
Whether or not it was Uncharted 5 or a spin-off was never said. However, the project was cancelled after the team straight up asked to be removed. Perhaps the project has found new life at this new studio?

Considering the Uncharted movie was a success at the box office, it makes perfect sense for Sony to release a new title to capitalise on that. Especially since the movie was likely a gateway for new fans.
Or maybe it is a new Jak And Daxter after all, which will certainly be a welcome surprise for both its fans.
