Erik ten Hag praises de Gea after win over West Ham

Man Utd 1-0 West Ham: Erik ten Hag praises de Gea after win over West Ham

Erik ten Hag has heaped praise on Manchester United’s goalkeeper David de Gea. The Man Utd boss called the keeper “great” and rejected the claim de Gea cannot play with his feet.

Widespread reports in Spain are claiming that de Gea failed to make the Spanish World Cup shortlist and therefore cannot be selected to play in next month’s world cup in Qatar.

It would be a massive blow for de Gea, 31, who gave a solid performance last night against West Ham. And especially as three Premier League keepers – Robert Sanchez of Brighton, Brentford’s David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga – are understood to have made it.

Spain’s boss Luis Enrique has said he is not confident in De Gea’s passing out from the back.

But despite possibly missing out on a spot at the world cup, de Gea’s performance in the Premier League match was superb. He made late saves to deny Michail Antonio, Kurt Zouma and Declan Rice and ensure Man United got the 1-0 win.

    David De Gea. Unbelievable 👏🏼

    — Peter Schmeichel (@Pschmeichel1) October 30, 2022

“Everyone has his own opinion but for me, the first thing for a goalkeeper is to protect the goal and make sure you don’t concede goals,” he said. “In that fact he is magnificent.

“But with the feet he has capabilities as well. That is not only with the keeper but also the one in front and what options you give to bring passes in.

“I am convinced he can do it. The games so far he proved it.”
