Rebel Wilson has said the ‘distress’ of having her same-sex relationship ‘outed’ by the Australian press still causes her ‘pain.’

The Pitch Perfect star, 42, is currently dating fashion designer girlfriend Ramona Agruma, sharing their romance with the world at the start of June with a sweet photo.

However, it later emerged that the Sydney Morning Herald had approached Rebel for comment before planning to ‘out’ her first relationship with another woman in an article.

Understandably, the publication faced backlash after columnist Andrew Hornery complained that Rebel had ‘gazumped’ the story by going Instagram-official instead.

Since, the Aussie actress has branded the ordeal ‘grubby behaviour’ by the outlet, and admits it still affects her on a daily basis.

Rebel posed an adorable snap with partner Ramona, seemingly taken at a party, where the lovebirds cosied up at a table beside decorations and an impressive spread.

In her Instagram caption, Rebel noted that the Australian Press Council has now ‘condemned’ the Sydney Morning Herald and their journalists for their actions in attempting to ‘out’ her.

She continued: ‘While I didn’t personally ask for any action to be taken I am glad that this has been officially recorded and recognised.

‘Their actions did cause Ramona and I a lot of distress and while we’ve remained classy, there are still pains from having to rush this news publicly which we are dealing with.’

But, the pair are continued to move forwards with their romance and celebrate the positives in life.

‘We move on, focusing on all the absolutely amazing new things in our life though! Sending love to everyone 💗’, she concluded, with the hashtag, LoveIsLove.

The comedian received an outpouring of love from her 11.2million followers, with Ramona also commenting a series of pink heart emoji.

One fan commented: ‘100% behind you and wishing you all the very best 👑.’

‘Sending love. No one deserves that. You are amazing and strong and so classy,’ declared another.

Fellow Pitch Perfect actress Brittany Snow also commented heart eye emoji, while Kelly Brook exclaimed: ‘Love Always Wins ❤️.’

It has now been stated by the Australian Press Council that a perceived threat to ‘out’ Rebel was ‘likely to cause substantial offence and distress.’

‘The tenor of the publication’s communications with Ms Wilson concerning a deeply personal matter, and the associated commentary on a matter which had no apparent connection to her public activities, intruded on her reasonable expectations of privacy,’ the council said in a statement.

They continued: ‘The council considers that, taken collectively, the article’s reference to “outing” same-sex celebrity couples, its reference to giving Ms Wilson two days to respond to information concerning her relationship, and its forthright criticism of her for not responding, was likely to cause substantial offence and distress.’

It was also stated that there was ‘not enough public interest’ in the matter to justify the intrusion, with the Council saying the Herald had breached general principle five (avoid intruding on a person’s reasonable expectations of privacy, unless doing so is sufficiently in the public interest) and six (avoid causing or contributing materially to substantial offence, distress or prejudice, or a substantial risk to health or safety, unless doing so is sufficiently in the public interest).
