A formidable pumpkin – the largest in American history – is being carved into the world’s biggest jack-o-lantern by a Minnesota gardener.
Weighing more than 2500 pounds, the heavy pumpkin has been named Maverick in honour of Tom Cruise’s Top Gun’s character.
As well as that, it’s broken the American record when it comes to pumpkin size – having won the World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in California earlier this month.
On Friday, the official Facebook page of Anoka, Minnesota, uploaded photos of impressive carved-out pumpkins.
‘Progress is being made on Maverick, the record-breaking 2650 pound pumpkin in Anoka, the Halloween capital of the world,’ the post read.
According to news website UPI, the man behind this colossal pumpkin was Travis Gienger, who grew and then brought Maverick back to his home in Anoka – where it was carved in an effort to break the record for the largest jack-o-lantern.

Currently, this massive pumpkin is decorated with an eagle carving at the City Hall in Anoka.
The group behind the event is Anoka Halloween, who are dedicated to promoting Anoka as the Halloween Capital of the World.
‘[Maverick] is good [in bringing] recognition to growing giant pumpkins, which brings recognition to Halloween, which Anoka is all about,’ Jeremy McFarland of Anoka Halloween.
Since being shared, the post has attracted hundreds of likes and shares on Facebook – with viewers in awe of the massive pumpkin being transformed into an eagle.
Excited about visiting the pumpkin, one user wrote ‘Is this in front of City Hall? We’d like to come to see it on Monday’.
Another shared the post, describing it as a ‘unique pumpkin’.
