The arrival of Casemiro at Manchester United will help Harry Maguire become a better defender, and potentially a top player, reckons Grame Souness.
Maguire has had a season to forget so far, starting the campaign in the United team but quickly being replace by Raphael Varane, who has formed an impressive partnership at centre-back with Lisandro Martinez.
The England international then got injured while playing for the Three Lions against Germany last month and his preparation for the World Cup looked to be in tatters.
However, he has regained fitness and with Varane picking up an injury Maguire has the chance to return to the starting XI in the build-up to Qatar 2022.
Souness feels the defender can regain his best form and go on to become a top player with the help of summer signing Casemiro who will make his life easier thanks to his excellence in defensive midfield.
‘Injury to Raphael Varane may hand Harry Maguire another chance for Manchester United against West Ham tomorrow and I hope he takes it,’ Souness wrote in the Daily Mail.

‘Maguire has been overly criticised and I feel for him. He’s had a bad run of form but he’s not the only one.
‘I think the boy has it in him to be a top player and with Casemiro playing in front of him, with a real defensive head who senses danger, I think he will be a far better defender. It will be interesting to see if he bounces back.’
The Red Devils host West Ham on Sunday at Old Trafford with Maguire hoping to return to the starting line-up after coming on in the Europa League against Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday night.
