Love Island star Jay Younger has revealed how much the islanders get paid for their time in the villa – and it’s not much as you may have thought.

Of course, Love Island comes with a huge cash prize of £50,000 for the couple who can make it to the end and win over the public’s vote, but for those who aren’t so lucky in love (or votes), the pay is far less.

Jay, 28, had a short stint in the villa this series, after entering as a bombshell and trying things on with Paige Thorne (when she was cracking on with Jacques O’Neill) before coupling up with eventual winner Ekin-su Cülcüloğlu after she crawled on the floor to get a sneaky kiss on the roof in iconic scenes.

Talking about his how much he got paid for his time on the villa, Jay revealed the amount to be, in his words, ‘very low,’ comparing it to ‘minimum wage.’

‘For me, I didn’t have an agent, and once they sent through the contract, I think they pay you £375 a week,’ Jay shared.

He continued on The Rugby Pod: ‘It’s very low, it’s like minimum wage,’ adding: ‘They’ll pay for any ad-hoc advertisements that you do, so you might be holding a bottle, and if you’re wearing certain sponsored clothes.

‘It’s not about the money, it’s about the exposure that it’s meant to give you after, and they invite you to events after, which they pay you like £1200 for, like an ITV commercial event.’

Upon leaving the villa, Gemma Owen went on to sign a six-figure deal with Pretty Little Thing, following in the footsteps of 2019 finalist and PLT creative director Molly-Mae Hague, while winner Davide Sanclimenti also signed a huge deal with Boohoo Man.

Meanwhile, Tasha Ghouri has teamed up with eBay, and Davide and Ekin-Su are also launching their own travel TV show.

Last year’s contestant Priya Gopaldas also publicly revealed how much she was paid for her short stint on the show.

Priya, a medical student from London, initially flirted with Matthew MacNabb before dumping him for new bombshell Brett Staniland.

However, the two only lasted a few more days before they were voted off the show, and while she was only on our screens for a week, she made £750.

Taking to her Instagram story, the star shared a screenshot of a bank statement showing the £750 entering her account in a payment from ITV.

She also shared another screenshot showing she donated the same amount to NHS Charities Together through Virgin Money Giving.

Love Island is available to watch on ITV Hub.
