Strictly Come Dancing star Tony Adams has admitted he’s starting to feel the pressure.

The Arsenal legend is paired up with Katya Jones on the BBC’s juggernaut show, vying to impress judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas.

Among the football star’s iconic performances on the ballroom floor is a Cha-Cha-Cha, where he recreated the famous striptease moment from the 1997 film The Full Monty.

Meanwhile, last week to commemorate the BBC’s centenary, Tony and Katya danced to the Grandstand Theme Tune by Keith Mansfield from BBC Sport.

Appearing on Thursday’s It Takes Two, Tony and Katya spoke to host Janette Manrara about the competition from fellow dancers, who include the likes of Hamza Yassin and Helen Skelton.

Reflecting on their performance last week, Tony said: ‘I had a bit of compare and despair really, because all the other dancers were so brilliant.

‘I was thinking, “Oh my god, that one’s nailing it and that one’s no nailing it.” and I was thinking, “Oh my god, I can’t do this.”‘

Katya added: ‘You can’t fault how much effort he puts into it. He really goes for it.’

It’s not the first time Tony has confessed to feeling stressed about the competition series, saying previously felt like an ‘emotional wreck’ and had been ‘crying at legally blonde.’

He added:  ‘We’ve got no safety net here, you know? I’m doing something completely out of my comfort zone and I’m just giving it a go.’

Tony also told Metro.co.uk how ‘emotional’ he’d become from the outpouring of support he’s received from viewers across the UK, becoming ‘teary’ as he emphasised how thankful he was.

He also revealed a story he’d heard about a young boy who decided to recreate the 55-year-old’s viral Granada training dance, which Katya made sure to include in their first routine last week.

It Takes Two continues on Friday on BBC Two on 6.30pm.
