Piers Morgan is among those voicing their outrage at Trevor Noah over his comments regarding the reception to Rishi Sunak’s appointment as Prime Minister in the UK.
After Liz Truss resigned last week, the Conservatives hosted another leadership event – with the politician coming out on top after Penny Mordaunt dropped out of the race.
He was declared PM after meeting with King Charles on Tuesday, at Buckingham Palace.
In an episode of the Daily Show that aired earlier this week, Noah discussed the political update and questioned the ‘backlash’ to the news.
‘Seeing the more backlash is one of the more telling things about how people view the role that they – or their people – have played in history,’ he began
‘You hear a lot of people saying: “Oh they’re taking over, Indians are going to take over Great Britain and what’s next?”, and I’ve always found myself going: “So what? What are you afraid of?”

‘You see people in the UK, you see people like [Fox News star] Tucker Carlson all the time saying: “You know what they’re trying to do… they won’t stop until Black people and women are in positions of power” … So what?’
He continued: ‘Why are you so afraid? I think it’s because the quiet part a lot of people don’t realize they are saying is: “We don’t want these people, who were previously oppressed, to get into power because then they may do to us what we did to them.”
‘Which, ironically, is not true.
‘What do you think is going to happen? You’re just giving yourself away. It’s amazing when people say the quiet part out loud. You expose yourself. Why do you care?

‘Why are you afraid of power shifting to another gender or to another race?’
However, many have slammed the segment, and accusing Noah of ‘inventing’ racial backlash towards Mr Sunak.
Sharing his thoughts on Twitter, Morgan penned: ‘There’s been no such backlash against Sunak, you race-baiting twerps. Why does US media keep falsely portraying Britain as a racist country?’
‘There is no racist backlash against Rishi Sunak,’ another insisted. ‘The only backlash is that he has no mandate as nobody voted for him, the same backlash that Liz Truss had.
‘This is completely fake outrage.’
‘What backlash? There literally hasn’t been one,’ a viewer commented.
‘Dear America. There is no racist backlash against Sunak,’ a Twitter user wrote. ‘Vast majority have no issue. He was recently most popular politician in the UK!
‘Racist abuse is confined to a small fringe who are amplified on Twitter, mirrored in a small fringe who think everybody in the West is racist.’
As one claimed: ‘…you’ve literally invented a backlash that doesn’t exist.’

The news comes just days after LBC host Sangita Myska powerfully shut down a racist caller last week – before Mr Sunak was elected as PM – after they claimed that Mr Sunak ‘isn’t even British’.
A man known as ‘Jerry’ – who claimed to be part of the Tory party – voiced his fury that the politician was in the running to lead the government, alleging that he ‘doesn’t love England’ and ‘isn’t even British in most people’s opinion’.
‘Rishi’s not going to win it. Rishi’s not even British, in most people’s opinion,’ he claimed. ‘He’s got American allegiance, his family’s American. They’re Indian businesspeople. He’ll go and live in America no doubt.’
After a back-and-forth, the host replied: ‘Is the problem Jerry that Rishi Sunak is a brown man and you don’t trust him at the top of this country?’

‘Well could you imagine him going to the Scottish nationalists and being the Prime Minister of the Scottish nationalists? Could you imagine me becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan or Saudi Arabia? No! These things matter,’ Jerry said.
‘I’m sorry you don’t like it, but we’re talking about England. 85% of English people are white English people and they want to see a Prime Minister that reflects them. I can’t just go to India and be the Prime Minister there can I?’
Myska hit his own words back to him – after which he accused her of ‘twisting it’.
She ended the call by stating: ‘I think you’re losing this argument Jerry, I think you’re a racist, and it’s absolutely fascinating that you and other Tory Party members think like this.’
