It is a bittersweet moment for Doctor fans as Jodie Whittaker is about to make her final appearance in the beloved role.
To mark 100 years of the BBC, the 40-year-old actress is set to bow out of the beloved BBC sci-fi drama alongside showrunner Chris Chibnall in the centenary special, The Power of the Doctor, ending her five-year reign as the 13th Time Lord.
It was announced in May this year that Sex Education actor Ncuti Gatwa will be stepping into the Tardis as the 14th Doctor, however, news about his highly-anticipated debut has been kept under wraps.
Showrunner Chibnall recently hailed tonight’s episode as a ‘huge, epic, fast roller coaster ride.’
But will Whittaker’s character regenerate?

Although Whittaker has confirmed that her character will regenerate, she hasn’t given too much away in regards to the build-up, however, she recently expressed that it ‘captures’ her Doctor ‘beautifully.’
According to Chibnall, her moment will serve as a massive contrast to previous Doctors.
‘It is different. It’s visually very different,’ he told Metro.co.uk.
‘And where it takes place is different. I think I can say that without it being too much of a spoiler. It definitely feels different. It’s not going to take place in the same place as the previous regenerations’.
All of the other Doctors of New Who – Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi – have regenerated in the Tardis.
‘There are surprises still to come – big, big surprises,’ he added.

‘There are so many Easter eggs in there for people who have been watching the show over the years,’ he went on.
‘There are things for really, really hardcore fans, and even the more casual viewers. There’s lots to get your teeth into.’
‘It has an evil trio of monsters – the Daleks, Cybermen and The Master, played by Sacha Dhawan. And Sacha playing the Master as you’ve never seen him before in Doctor Who. It goes all across time and space, it’s connecting the past, present, and future of Doctor Who, it’s very exciting, it’s funny, and there will be tears at the end of the 13th Doctor.’
Meanwhile, Whittaker also shared what’s next for her as she bows out of the BBC One sci-fi.

‘I think this is the thing, no job is going to be like this for us. We know that. So what you want and what you kind of crave next is a challenge because every day was a challenge on this,’ she told Metro.co.uk.
‘And I think it doesn’t matter what genre it is, or what kind of job it is, I just want to feel energised and I want to feel that fear. I love the fear of it, of not knowing whether you can do something and every day with Doctor Who, you felt like you jumped and you didn’t know if you were going to land – and I love that feeling.’
