A Kent family have created a sea-shanty inspired by the shock resignation of Suella Braverman, and it’s gone viral.

The Home Secretary quit after just 43 days – in what emerged to be one of the final nails in the coffin of Liz Truss’s government.

A major Tory revolt would lead to the resignation of the Prime Minister herself this afternoon.

A security gaffe, which saw Ms Braverman send classified documents from a personal email, had reportedly led to a ‘shouting match’ with Ms Truss on Tuesday.

The ‘fiery’ discussion lasted around 90 minutes.

Ms Braverman’s brief tenure as Home Secretary, which lasted just a day shorter than Ms Truss as PM, has now led to a creative parody by the Marsh Family.

Their song is a take on a popular rendition of The Wellerman by Nathan Evans.

Liz Truss resigns: What happens next?

Liz Truss has stepped down as Conservative Party leader and UK Prime Minister after just 44 days. So what happens next?

    – Liz Truss’ speech in full after resigning as Prime Minister

    – Will the new Prime Minister be elected by the public?

    – Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak to go head to head

    – Pound rises against the dollar after Liz Truss resigns

Dad Ben, 45, told Metro.co.uk: ‘We had to make the Braverman shanty quickly, because we’d already spotted it scanned for a parody of the Wellerman, but we were going to miss the chance when she left office so abruptly!

The parody includes lines such as ‘Suella Braverman’s gone, To think she’d only been there a month!’ (Picture: James McCauley/Shutterstock)

‘We only decided to go for it last night because Watford were 0-3 down at half-time to Millwall, so none of the kids wanted to watch the second half.

‘And Danielle was done (for at least 20 minutes) doom-scrolling about the mayhem in Parliament!’

The Marsh Family shot to fame after uploading pandemic parody songs that went viral in 2020.

Videos were shared across the globe and appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and BBC’s Comic Relief soon followed.

The family of six, from Kent, were even dubbed the ‘Von Trapped’ family by the New York Times after their videos went viral.

Though sometimes compared to The Partridge Family and Weird Al Yankovic, their songs are often likened to other famous families such as the Bee Gees, Beach Boys, and The Corrs.

The family consists of dad Ben, mum Danielle and children Alfie, 15, Thomas,14, Ella, 12, and Tess 10.

The Marsh Family website also features their songs.

The lyrics to ‘Braverman Shanty – the Marsh Family adaptation of The Wellerman

There once was a brief Home Secretary
She came from the group called the ERG
Begins the job, but then backs down
She breached the ministers’ code (huh)

    Suella Braverman’s gone
To think she’d only been there a month!
Spent days, just wagging her tongue
She’d take her leave and go

She had dreamed two weeks before
Of sending migrants from these shores
She clapped and called for a culture war
She’d make that airplane go (huh)

    Suella Braverman’s gone
To think she’d only been there a month!
Spent days, just wagging her tongue
She’d take her leave and go

She swore the wokerati fought her
But Sue’s email’s what really caught her
    Ironically, this migrants’ daughter
Then dived out the boat (huh)

    Suella Braverman’s gone
To think she’d only been there a month!
Spent days, just wagging her tongue
She’d take her leave and go

Her time was short, for all agree
    In Cabinet confidentiality
And now she’s gone she can whinge and scheme
She’ll never let it go (huh)

    Suella Braverman’s gone
To think she’d only been there a month!
Spent days, just wagging her tongue
She’d take her leave and go

For forty days (but not much more)
Her time in charge was insecure
She talked of plans to change the law
But now she’s got to go (huh)

    Suella Braverman’s gone
To think she’d only been there a month!
Spent days, just wagging her tongue
She’d take her leave and go

A sinking ship’s the kind of song
To describe this government’s goings on!
As far as we’ve heard, The Braverman’s gone
Don’t say it five times – or she might return

    Suella Braverman’s gone
To think she’d only been there a month!
Spent days, just wagging her tongue
She’d take her leave and go
