Former Coronation Street star Ruxandra Porojnicu, who played Alina Pop in the soap, has been in a nasty accident that’s left her feeling very sore.
Ruxandra used her Instagram account to reveal a bandaged left hand and wrist, captioning the picture, ‘I’m many things but clumsy too – which is hilarious but also painful.’ There are no details of what happened to her other than it was obviously a clumsy accident, but at least Ruxandra is seeing the funny side to the incident, which leaves us hopeful that she’ll be feeling better very soon.
The Romanian actress joined Coronation Street in 2019 as a Romanian citizen who was trafficked to the UK and ended up working in a nail bar in Weatherfield. The trafficking ring was exposed by Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) and undercover police informant Jan Lozinski (Piotr Baumann), and Alina returned to her home country.
She returned to the UK and got a job at Underworld, and started a relationship with Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) – a relationship which split up the long-term partnership of Tyrone and Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine).

Alina became pregnant with Tyrone’s baby, but lost the baby after Fiz’s daughter Hope (Isabella Flanagan) started a fire at their flat. Upon learning that Tyrone had hidden Hope’s troubled history from her, Alina returned to Romania.
Ruxandra previously revealed that she shared parallels with the character she played on Coronation Street after arriving in the UK with only £300 in her pocket. She said this helped her to relate to Alina. ‘The thing what really helped me, at least at the beginning, was the fact that I find myself in Alina’s situation when I came here I the UK with big dreams,’ she said.
‘I just wanted to work for a better future and earn money, that was it. I was a bit naïve – I didn’t know I’d need to sign a contract or I to know about these people more.’

Alina’s story helped to shed a light on modern slavery, a subject that Corrie producer Iain MacLeod said at the time was ‘one of the biggest hidden scandals in the UK today.’
Since leaving Coronation Street Ruxandra has been working on the film Sumotherhood alongside the film’s writer, director and star Adam Deacon, as well as Jennifer Saunders, Ed Sheeran and Jaime Winstone. The film is currently in post-production.
