Sir Rod Stewart has revealed he’s rented a home and paid the bills for a family of seven Ukrainian refugees.

He said that while he usually keeps his charitable efforts ‘nice and quiet’, he hopes to inspire others.

The It Takes Two hitmaker has rented a Berkshire home for Ukrainian couple Rostylsav and Olena and their five children for at least a year.

Sir Rod, 77, said: ‘It just makes me want to do more. I am thinking of getting another house now and getting a lot more people over.’

‘I usually keep all my charitable efforts nice and quiet and just do it. But I thought, ‘I am a knight, I have been given this knighthood because of the things I’ve achieved in my life and the charity work I’ve done over the years.’

He added to The Mirror: ‘But that was the past; I want to be seen to be doing something now. I am a knight, I should be using my power to do something for people. I am sure that if there are people out there who see what I am doing, they will pick up some slack too.’

Sir Rod, who has eight children of his own, also previously hired three trucks filled with supplies for refugees and had them driven to Ukraine and, using the same trucks, transported 16 people to safety in Berlin.

He also plans to pay tribute to the country during his upcoming tour.

The musician was made a knight for services to music and charity in 2016, receiving his honour from Prince William.

President Volodymyr Zelensky recently urged Western leaders to ramp up sanctions on Russian energy (Picture: APAImages/Shutterstock)

He said at the time: ‘I’ve led a wonderful life and have had a tremendous career thanks to the generous support of the great British public.

‘This monumental honour has topped it off and I couldn’t ask for anything more. I thank Her Majesty and promise to “wear it well.”‘

The war in Ukraine continues, with President Volodymyr Zelensky recently urging Western leaders to once again ramp up sanctions on Russian energy, to starve the ‘terrorist state’ of money to fund the war.

The Ukrainian President said stopping the flow of money from oil and gas exports would bring peace closer, while also calling for help to create an ‘air shield’.

In a video call with the leaders of the G7, including Liz Truss, the Ukrainian leader was offered more support, after Vladimir Putin’s recent strikes on civilian targets were condemned as war crimes.
