Rhea Ripley wrestled for the first time in 131 days over the weekend after a long spell ouot of action due to a nasty injury.

The WWE superstar hadn’t had a match since winning a Number One Contender’s match for the Raw Women’s Title on June 6, but she accidentally kneed herself in the face during the bout.

She later told fans on social media she had suffered a ‘brain and teeth’ injury without going into specifics, and at one point shared a selfie wearing a heart monitor while training during her recovery.

Although the Judgment Day star has appeared alongside her stablemates Finn Balor, Damian Priest and Dominik Mysterio on screen while still getting physical, she hasn’t actually had a match for four months.

That changed over the weekend when she teamed up with Priest to take on the duo of Dolph Ziggler and Nikki A.S.H. at shows in Sioux City, Iowa and Topeka, Kansas.

She and Priest lost both nights, but fans were delighted to see Ripley back in action after so long.

Getting to work in a tag match together has been high on both superstars’ to do lists for a while now, and Rhea recently opened up on the close bond they share as friends away from the ring.

‘It’s insane. I get along with them boys so well – even Priest, we’ve been friends for so long now. We’ve always talked about wanting to do an inter-gender tag match together, we are so similar,’ she exclusively told Metro.co.uk.

‘I wore the dude’s gear when I lost my gear, that’s how similar we are! It’s really cool being in a group with them boys, and just going out there and actually having fun and doing our thing! It’s great.’

Last October, Rhea was left devastated when a bag containing her wrestling outfits and memories fell out of the back of her car and seemed to have been taken from the roadside.

had a show to do that night for WWE, and ended up turning to fellow Raw superstar Damian Priest to borrow his pants and get through her match.

‘Losing all my stuff – legit, I have one pair of pants. One pair of gear pants, that’s all I had,’ she admitted. ‘So, losing that and losing the title, and having to wear Damian Priest’s pants – and them fitting me better than they fit him!

‘It was hilarious! I remember putting them on and I walked out, and they fit. He’s like, “I hate you!” Everyone that walked past was like, “Woooow! We didn’t realise you had another pair of pants?” “They’re not my pants! [laughs]’

WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
