Ex-Gogglebox couch critic Josh Tapper has announced he is throwing his hat in the ring to become a MP.
Taking to Twitter earlier this week, the 25-year-old revealed he would be standing as a Labour candidate in the seat of Chipping Barnet.
In a two-minute video, Tapper said that although ‘some people may think I’m too young or inexperienced’, he wanted to be judged on his ‘record’.
‘From reversing Tory neglect on our green spaces to pioneering institutional change of mental health support, I’ve always shown that no matter how big the challenge, I’ll always take it on and get the job done,’ he continued.
The former campaign assistant previously worked for ex-Tory Prime Minister Theresa May, but said in the video that the party had ‘driven our country into the ground’ and that it now needed ‘a transformative Labour government’.
Clearly in campaign mode, he also referenced his work volunteering in a local food bank and at cancer care charities, as well as being a trustee of Homeless Action in Barnet.
‘I’ve seen how our community supports one another, but in 21st century Britain no-one should be going hungry, especially our NHS heroes,’ he added.
‘Right now our country is too divided and I want to play my part in turning that around.
Tapper previously appeared on 10 seasons of Gogglebox with his mum Nikki, dad Jonathan and sister Amy, but left the series in 2018 after being offered a Cabinet Office job.

At the time he told The Mirror that the door had been left open for him to return, but that ‘the focus is now very much on my job.’

In the campaign video, Tapper also said that while Labour had ‘drifted in recent years’, he had been working with many others to ‘rebuild that trust’.
He also took aim at sitting MP Theresa Villiers, whom he said ‘doesn’t fight for the change we need.’
‘She’s part of the problem, standing idly by while people suffer at the hands of her Tory colleagues’.
Tapper is set to have his work cut out for him, with the seat being held by the Conservatives since its creation in 1974.

Politics is about people. Our community taught me to work hard, stand up for others, give back and fight for what you believe in. Theresa Villiers doesn’t fight for the change we need. That’s why I’m standing to be the first Labour MP for Chipping Barnet.https://t.co/EeL7XFsWQt pic.twitter.com/Rr5dBuyG5w— Josh Tapper for Chipping Barnet (@JoshDTapper) October 10, 2022
