When is the verdict expected from the Depp v Heard trial?
The world has watched, for the past six weeks, the dramatic $50m defamation lawsuit brought by Johnny Depp against ex-wife Amber Heard – Heard is countersuing for $100m.
Johnny Depp is claiming an op-ed in the Washington Post written by Amber Heard (in which she described herself as a figure representing domestic abuse) defamed him and has cost him his career. Heard’s team are counting sign saying Ms heard did not name Depp and that by calling her allegations false, Heard’s career has also suffered. Both Depp and Heard are struggling to find acting work due to the scandal.
Both legal teams have alleged physical and verbal abuse from the other party, with Heard taking the stand to allege that Johnny Depp sexually assaulted her with a glass bottle – an allegation he called “insane.”
On Friday, both teams presented their closing arguments to the judge and jury, who then took a break for the weekend. They return today (Monday was a national holiday in the US) for the first time to start deliberations.
A verdict could come as early as Tuesday, however, the jury has six weeks of testimonies, audio recordings, video footage and images to read through before making a decision.
So we COULD get an update today – but it remains unlikely.
