Cost of living soars to highest level in 30 years
The Metro says the rate of inflation has soared to its highest level in 30 years amid the spiralling cost of living.
The figure has jumped from 5.5% in January to 6.2%, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
It comes ahead of Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s ‘mini-budget’ statement today, when he is expected to cut fuel duty to help households feeling the squeeze.
However, the finance minister has been urged to go a step further and stop a planned tax rise next month.
