When is Eid al Adha 2020
Wednesday 22 July 2020 will be the first day of the Islamic month of Hajj, Dhū Al-Hijjah. The Day of ‘Arafāt will be on Thursday 30 July 2020. Thus Eid al Adha 2020 will be on 31st July 2020.

Guidelines for Eid celebrations in the UAE
Abdulrahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, said it was the responsibility of Emiratis and residents to uphold physical distancing, wear face masks and maintain good personal hygiene, describing these acts as “a national duty and obligation”.
He called on the public not to undo the good work of the “frontline heroes”, which is evidenced by the decrease in daily case numbers and an increase in overall recoveries.
Dr Omar Al Hammadi, a spokesman for the weekly government media briefing, said hefty fines would be imposed on those found not observing physical distancing for the duration of Eid Al Adha.
“During Eid, we kindly ask you to comply with precautionary measures and congratulate others with words [rather than embracing family],” he said.
Dr Al Hammadi said visits must be limited to first and second-degree relatives and that people should wear face masks and keep a minimum distance of two metres from one another. Especially in Dubai.
Al Hammadi recommended that parents act as good role models for their children in order that they adapt to the new social situation such as wearing masks, caring for personal hygiene, and practising social distancing.
Al Hammadi explained that, despite the positive indicators reflected in the numbers of daily cases and the high rates of recovery, it is imperative for everyone to strictly adhere to preventive measures, the most important of which is social distancing, as this is a key factor in the process of limiting the spread of the virus.
Avoid big gatherings on Eid al Adha 2020
Al Hammadi revealed that multiple infections are being seen for members of one family, in both citizens and residents, as a result of special celebrations and gatherings in homes and farms without maintaining social distancing or wearing a mask. He noted the need to avoid big gatherings and limit events to a small number of family members who all need to adhere to precautionary measures. These include maintaining a safe distance of no fewer than two metres between people following sterilisation procedures, avoiding handshaking and using single-use paper dishes, cutlery and other utensils.
It was also announced that, in light of government efforts to support all sectors and the steady return to normality, a decision was issued to resume the circulation of newspapers, magazines and paper marketing publications, taking into account all precautionary and preventive measures. The materials should not be distributed in meeting places such as cafes but can be distributed to offices where they will be read and used by one person exclusively.
As for the length of time it takes for the patient to recover from COVID-19, The spokesperson indicated that this depends on the individual’s condition, age and medical history, and those with chronic diseases need longer treatment ranging from 10 to 20 days from the date the symptoms appear, If the infection is simple and limited to basic symptoms such as coughing, fever and bodily pain, patients can recover in as little as 10 days.
Regarding safe interaction between family and friends during the Eid period, Al Hammadi stressed that social media and electronic communication are the best methods at the present time because there is no face-to-face interaction. Visits should be limited to first and second-degree relatives only and all should apply and follow the precautionary measures and guidelines to avoid infecting their loved ones.
Al Hammadi advised the public to avoid distributing Eid gifts and money to children to reduce the chances of infection. He also said visits and family gatherings should be avoided and replaced with electronic means or phone calls.
UAE coronavirus update today
On Monday, the UAE identified 264 new cases of the coronavirus after conducting 47,299 more tests. Minister of Health and Prevention also revealed that 47 cases of Covid-19 had been recorded in just five families, who were attending family events without applying social distancing or other preventive measures.
The new infections raised the country’s tally to 59,177. Authorities said 328 people recovered from the virus while one patient died due to complications.
As it stands, 52,510 people in the UAE have recovered from Covid-19 and the country’s death toll has reached 352. The number of active cases is currently 6,322.
Since the outbreak, more than 4.8 million coronavirus tests have been conducted across the Emirates.
