    Tourists must quarantine on return home from Spain

    The Sunday Telegraph leads with the return of the 14-day quarantine for travellers entering the UK from Spain – in force from midnight on Saturday. The paper says thousands of British tourists have had their holidays “thrown into disarray” by the restrictions.

    New travel measures: Costa del quarantine

    The Sunday Mirror also leads with the new measures announced in response to Spain’s coronavirus case spike. More than 900 new cases of the virus were reported in the country on Friday. The Foreign Office is advising against all but essential travel to mainland Spain.

    Virus brings new holiday misery

    The Sunday Express reports coronavirus has brought fresh “holiday misery.” People currently on holiday in Spain have been told to follow local rules, return home as normal and check the Foreign Office’s travel advice website for more information. The government is also urging employers to be “understanding” of those returning from Spain who now need to self-isolate.

    William ‘behaved like a snob’ when Harry fell for Meghan 

    The Sunday Times reports details from a new book detailing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s life in the Royal Family. The broadsheet, which is serialising Finding Freedom, claims the Duke of Cambridge behaved like “a snob” as he urged his brother not to “rush” into his relationship with Meghan. It also says Meghan was “disappointed” that the Duchess of Cambridge did not welcome her into the family.

    Britain wins rare praise for leading the race to test life-saving Covid drugs

    The Guardian says it has been a startling week for those following Britain’s response to the pandemic. The UK was unexpectedly the recipient of a sudden bout of praise for its scientific efforts to combat the disease. 

    “The Brits are on course to save the world,” wrote leading US economist Tyler Cowen in Bloomberg Opinion, while the journal Science quoted leading international scientists who have heaped praise on British researchers’ anti-Covid work.

    Australia suffers its deadliest day of Covid-19 pandemic despite Melbourne lockdown

    France24 says Australia has suffered its deadliest day from the coronavirus since the pandemic began, with authorities reporting ten deaths Sunday and a rise in new infections despite an intensive lockdown effort. 

    The country’s Covid-19 death toll rose to 155 and the southeastern state of Victoria reported more than 450 new infections in the last 24 hours.

    Lebanon ‘botched virus response’ says health advisers; return to tough lockdown rules

    Arab News says Lebanon’s government was accused on Saturday of botching its response to the pandemic and urged to impose a tough new lockdown after the average number of daily cases doubled in a week. 

    The state coronavirus committee of medical specialists has advised closing markets, bars, nightclubs, indoor pools, children’s clubs and sports halls, and banning beach parties and religious and social events for a week.

    Hurricane Hanna lashes Texas as US state faces coronavirus crisis

    Aljazeera says Hurricane Hanna has devastated the southern coast of Texas in the United States overnight with howling winds and a surging sea that threatens a broad area already contending with a spike in coronavirus cases. 

    Hanna, the first hurricane in the 2020 Atlantic storm season, has forced authorities to arrange shelters and evacuation for people while also maintaining physical distancing protocols and other pandemic restrictions.

    Brazil reports more than 50,000 new coronavirus cases for the fourth day in a row

    CNN says Brazil’s health ministry reported 51,147 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, bringing the nationwide total to 2.39 million. 

    Saturday marks the fourth day in a row that Brazil has reported more than 50,000 new Covid-19 cases and this week marks a weekly record of 321,623 new cases, according to data from the state Ministry of Health.

    BBC Sport says former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker claimed a unanimous decision victory over British contender Darren Till in the final event of UFC Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.
