Today’s news summary – Paper Talk

Most of Monday’s papers lead with the news that the Queen has tested positive for coronavirus and will continue with ‘light duties’ from Windsor Castle. The papers’ other lead story reports the US claims Vladimir Putin has given the order to invade Ukraine.

    …………………….

The Daily Mirror leads with news that the Queen has COVID-19. The paper reports the Queen will continue to do ‘light duties’ and has cold-like symptoms, whilst highlighting the news the prime minister will lift all restrictions.

The Queen’s positive COVID-19 test is the lead for the Daily Express. The Express reports the news as a Covid outbreak at Windsor Castle – the paper says she will ‘receive medical attention’ for her ‘mild cold-like symptoms.’ The paper also reports Putin gives orders to invade.

The Guardian leads with last-ditch talks to avoid a Russian invasion of Ukraine. The paper reports Macron says Putin is open to dialogue but the USA has warned Moscow has issued invasion orders. The Queen’s Covid diagnosis also makes the front page.

The Queen will work from home at Windsor while she battles COVID-19, The Sun says. Boris Johnson warning that Putin must not get away with invading Ukraine  – experts say Russian tanks marked with ‘Z’means action is close.

One keeps calm and carries on, Metro says, as Buckingham Palace confirms the Queen has COVID-19. The news dominates most of the front page, but there is room for the story the US has claimed Putin has given the order to invade Ukriane.

“Queen still at work with Covid” is the headline dominating the front of the i. The paper reports that the monarch has “mild cold-like symptoms”, but will continue with “light duties”. The paper adds that there have been several other cases identified at Windsor Castle, where the Queen will stay during her isolation.

According to the Times, at least two Cabinet ministers will withdraw their support for Boris Johnson if he is given a fine for breaching Covid laws.

Away from Covid, the Financial Times has a picture of a large peace rally in southern Ukraine on its cover.
