    US records nearly 20,000 new Covid-19 cases 

    CNN says at least 19,788 new coronavirus cases and 600 virus-related deaths were identified in the US. The latest figures from Johns Hopkins University now brings the national total to 1,790,191 reported infections. There have been at least 104,381 deaths in the US.

    Japan Times says modern economies will change forever after the coronavirus pandemic passes if some radical thinkers get their way. 

    Government’s have already temporarily cast aside dogmas – such as Germany’s “black zero” balanced budgets – to protect companies and jobs in the deepest peacetime recession in almost a century.

    Social distancing: A practical guide to how to socialise now

    BBC News says the UK is starting to relax its lockdown rules, meaning some of us can now see friends and family we have been separated from for months. 

    The new rules state, from Monday people in England can meet in groups up to six people in outdoor spaces like parks or private gardens – as long as you remain two metres apart.

    Health officials make last-minute plea to stop lockdown easing in England

    The Guardian says senior public health officials have made a last-minute plea for ministers to scrap Monday’s easing of the coronavirus lockdown in England. They warned the country is unprepared to deal with any surge in infection.

    The ADPH said the new rules, which allow groups of up to six people meet outdoors, were “not supported by the science” and that pictures of crowded beaches over the weekend showed “the public is not keeping to social distancing as it was.”

     Egyptians prepare to ‘coexist’ with Covid-19 as confirmed cases reach 23,449

    Arab News says Egyptian government officials are getting the public ready for life after the lockdown and coexisting with Covid-19 after new regulations were announced to stop the spread. 

    One regulation says people need to wear face masks when they leave home. The decision particularly focuses on those who work or visit markets, government buildings and banks.

    Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem reopen mosques as coronavirus lockdown eases

    Sky News says tens of thousands of mosques are reopening in the Middle East after the coronavirus outbreak. 

    Around 90,000 mosques in Saudi Arabia have been reopened, with government officials arranging prayer rugs, washrooms and shelves bein sanitised before use.

    Ethiopia calls for truce amid escalating border crisis with Sudan

    AfricaNews says Ethiopia says it is dismayed at recent cross border incursions along its common border with Sudan and has called for Sudanese authorities to allow for diplomacy to lead the search for an amicable solution.

    In a statement released on Sunday (May 31), the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry expressed “its deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims of both countries.”

    Egypt says 19 fighters killed in Sinai, 5 casualties among troops 

    Aljazeera says the Egyptian military says it has killed at least 19 fighters during security operations in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula, which also resulted in five casualties among troops

    The army said in an online video statement late on Saturday that the fighters were killed in raids and attacks that took place last week in the towns of Bir al-Abed, Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid.

    CNA says Hong Kong had no plans to change its currency’s peg to the US dollar and the Asian financial hub has not seen any “obvious” capital outflows after Washington moved to strip the city of its special status in US law, the city’s finance secretary said.
