England cricket team cancels cricket tours of Pakistan over security concerns
Aljazeera says the England cricket team will not go to cricket tours in Pakistan next month because of security concerns.
The decision, taken by the England and Wales Cricket Board on Monday, came three days after New Zealand Cricket abandoned its men’s team’s limited-overs tour of Pakistan following a government alert that warned of a possible attack outside Rawalpindi Stadium.
“The Board has reluctantly decided to withdraw both teams from the October trip,” the ECB said in a statement.
Many cricket commentators have come out in criticism of the announcement made by the English cricket board and have called it a betrayal of the support the PCB showed when they quarantined for 3 months in the summer.
Some have even suggested that the ECB were strong-armed by the Indian cricket, especially the IPL, who are determined to undermine the growth of Pakistani cricket.
