Covid vaccine: Chris Whitty under pressure after watchdog refuses to approve jabs for under-16s
The i says the vaccines watchdog came under heavy fire from MPs, headteachers and scientists last night after it refused to give the go-ahead to giving Covid-19 jabs to under-16s.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), an independent group of scientists, was also accused of passing the buck, when it rejected calls to widen the expansion of the vaccination programme and left the decision to jab 12-15-year olds to the Chief Medical Officer.
The health ministers from each of the four UK nations have ordered their chief medical officers – which include England’s Chris Whitty – to review the JCVI’s ruling and “consider the matter from a broader perspective”.
